15 May: Torremejia to Merida

Today was always going to have an early start…..Grandpa and Daddy were only 15km away over the hill, and we were keen to get to them.

We were racing along at lightning speed…..until we hit mud. At first it was just sticky mud, a bit like walking through chewing gum and it pulled the heels of your shoes to the ground, but then it turned into that oh-so-familiar soft sinky squishy mud.

The kids were buzzing with excitement, barely even stopping to take a close look at a goat from the farm we were passing through.

They even got a teeny bit frustrated at me stoping to message Daddy – they didn’t know we were arranging for him to walk out to meet us.

 And suddenly there he was.

We walked along the river together, crossed over the Roman bridge and the sun shone brightly.
